December 2, 2007-Young Frankenstein The Musical
Remember Funny Lady? Remember the overproduced show Billy Rose produced for Fanny called Crazy Quilts? I was reminded of that as I sat through 2+ hours of the new torture that is Broadway's Young Frankenstein. Great stars and great performances couldn't rescue this overproduced turkey. Only two performances really stood out: Igor and Frau Blucher. Roger Bart seemed to Nathan Lane-ish and Megan Mullally, a great singer, was just ok. Clearly, the best song of the show was Putting on the Ritz, which has been around since 1920. The new songs were not memorable, except for maybe Deep Love. BTW, I always thought Streisand would make a great Frau Blucher...
