November 1, 2007--UGLY BARBRA!?!?

Let me put an end to this vicious rumor before it takes flight. You see, I've been contacted and informed that Ugly Betty, the TV hit, was based on Barbra Streisand. According to this source, the series was based on Barbra's brief stint as a receptionist sometime in the early 1960s. NOT!!!! In reality, Ugly Betty is based on Betty La Fea, a Columbian soap opera about a secretary at a Columbian fashion agency. While there are great similarities in the plots, the originial Betty La Fea did not have countless gay characters, or a tranny, or illegal immigrants (they don't exist in Columbia). Still, Ugly Betty captures the spirit, braces and all, of Betty La Fea. So while Barbra could have been a really lively ugly secretary (a la Miss Marmelstein), she was not the inspiration for Betty Suarez (even though the initials are the same). Not everything is about Barbra! This rumor goes in the same file as the one that said that Miss Piggy was based on Barbra (was it the snout that sparked this one?). Well, that's why I'm here--to dispell rumors. I don't need to remind you all of the power of the truth.

Hi Louis - I heard a rumor too - Barbra is going to announce that she's going to re-remake "A Star is Born" - only this time she's going to play the Kris Kristofferson role and Clay Aiken will play the rising star. Barbra says "This will give me a chance to really stretch as an actress who sings. Since my career has never been in reverse, it will allow me to show some real depth. I will also sing the same songs that Kris sang - I was always a little jealous that he got sing 'Hellacious Acres' and 'Crippled Crow' - now those gems will be mine." Mariah Carey is rumored to play Barbra's manager, but I hear that Madonns is being considered. No word on who the director will be, but I hear George Lucas wants to do it and add a sci/fi aspect. Production starts in January.

Oh yeah - please don't tell anyone.
