May 22, 2007--IGBS Picks Jordin Sparks as Next Idol
Finally, the American Idol Season 6 finals. Blake Lewis (Beatboxer) started strong with a Bon Jovi song. And then it was down hill for him. He later sang a Maroon 5 song and the Season 6 new theme song, This Is My Now (did I get that right?). He is an ok singer and interesting performer, but ballads just show his weaknesses: no vibrato, little resonance, limited range, and no lungs (ie, a thin, weak voice with that can only hit simple short notes). That leaves him close to helpless on the power ballads. This is My Now was arranged as a power ballad and he just fell flat on it. No energy, no life. He couldn't even perform it well--what was with the jumping? And that's what happens when he is left without heavy rhythms and his trademark beatboxing. Many argue that he's different, but I say he's a novelty. The beatboxing is fun, but it grows old real fast. Jordin, on the other hand, has a big voice and she used it to nail her three songs. She started great, and just got better, and closed with a knockout punch. She reminds me of Streisand and she sang three Streisand songs during this season: You'll Never Walk Alone, On A Clear Day, and Woman In Love.

NOW do people realize that Barbra Streisand does NOT run this site?! You people are so dumb to think of such a thing.

Yes, Barbra. I totally agree with Lulubelle (A shout out to my Tennessee peeps). I am so glad you have set up this alternate site where you respond directly to your fans. It is so like you to set up chat to us on this irreverent site because it gives you the creative control that you have longed for and demanded all your life. It is such a smart move that you not allow yourself to be controlled by the official Sony site (bastards!!!), which would only try to control your image as the company "go to" girl. Being a slave to the musical corporate world is so 1950s and you certainly have pioneered independence, breaking musical rules and ignoring concert ticket price gouging warnings. Whenever I see your responses on this site I think of it as Barbra "unplugged" and I truly appreciate that you spend so much time on this Babs blog. Please don't cancel Rome. I'm sure the Pope would not be pleased and neither would Emily. In that order (sorry, I'm Catholic).
