March 16, 2007--The Owl and the Sourpuss
Oh the things I endure...  Yesterday I wen't to some forlorn theater in DC on 14th street to see  a revival of the Owl and the Pussycat.  Well, I should use another word because revival implies bringing back to life--which really wasn't the case here.  One sorry set with two sorry actors.  Well, Felix was actually ok, but Doris (who turned out to be "Dennis Wilgus") was a travesty.  "Doris" tried to sound like Barbra, but instead sounded like a poor imitation of the notorious Streisand impersonator Halstead.  The less than one fourth capacity audience found plenty to laugh at, only I don't know if they were laughing with Doris or at Doris.  At the end, Doris came on stage for her final curtain call and seemed shocked that it was only applause and no standing ovation.  I wish she could see herself.   She would then be thankful anyone was left to applaud.
